Net worth

Everything you own minus everything you owe, kept current by the money coming in and going out, with the reason for every change beside it.

Net worth is what you would have if you sold everything you own and paid off everything you owe. Trove keeps that figure in one place, keeps it current between the times you update it, and tells you why it moved.

Find it under Wealth → Net worth, or at /net-worth. The page has five tabs: Overview, Assets, Liabilities, Income and History.

Saying what you have

Type or say it in the bar at the top of the page:

Each sentence becomes one or more cards for you to check. Nothing is saved until you tap Save on a card. The car sentence above makes three: the car, the loan against it, and the 8 lakh that left your bank, which you can leave out if your bank balance already shows it.

If Trove only needs one more detail to get it right, such as which MacBook Air, the card asks. The reading happens in your browser as you type, and costs nothing. When it cannot place a sentence, Ask Trove to read it sends that one sentence to a language model, and only when you tap it. Voice uses your browser's own speech recognition, and no audio is kept.

Keeping it current

You tell Trove a balance once, with the date it was true. After that:

When a bank statement arrives with the same salary or EMI in it, the statement's entry replaces the one Trove added, so nothing is counted twice. Trove never adds past pay days: an income starts from its next pay day.

A balance you have not confirmed in 30 days is listed under Worth a look, as a reminder to check it against your bank.

Values, not guesses

A flat, a car or a watch counts at the value you state, dated, with an optional reason ("valued by the society", "similar listings"). Trove does not apply a fixed yearly depreciation, and does not quietly use what you paid. Use what I paid is a button you can tap, and it is labelled as your statement.

Anything without a value, and without an estimate from Trove, is marked Needs a value to count and left out of the total until it has one.

Trove's estimate

For a phone, a laptop, a car, a watch or anything else with a brand and a model, Trove can look up what it sells for used and show a range, such as Estimated ₹36,000–₹41,000 · medium confidence. It uses only prices a web source it cites actually states:

What it is based on opens the prices and the pages they came from. Your own figure always wins; the estimate is then shown beside it as Market says. Tap Estimate its value (up to ten a day), or leave Keep its value current on and Trove re-values it about once a month. When an estimate moves, the item says why ("Used prices fell 8% since August"). Only the brand, model, variant and year you bought it are searched for, nothing about you.

Homes, land and pets are not estimated.

What if I buy something?

On the Overview, put in a price, and optionally the part on a loan, to see your net worth, liquid money, how many months it lasts and your debt before and after. Before You Buy shows the same. Until the thing has a value, net worth after is a range: from what it would be if it resold for nothing, to what it would be if it held its price. Nothing is saved.

Nothing counted twice

A flat and the home loan against it both appear, each in full, on its own side. Link the loan to the flat and the flat shows how much is owed and how much is yours. The link is for display, not a second subtraction.

What the numbers mean

FigureWhat it is
You ownEvery asset with a value, in your currency
You oweEvery loan, card balance and informal debt
LiquidCash, deposits, market investments and gold, less short-term debt such as cards
InvestableYour financial assets less the debt not tied to a home or vehicle
Debt to assetsWhat you owe as a share of what you own
EMIs of incomeMonthly loan payments as a share of monthly income
Saved of incomeWhat is left of a month's income after a month's spending
Months liquid money lastsLiquid money divided by a month's spending
Pace, a monthHow fast net worth has moved over the last 90 days

Amounts in another currency are left out of the totals and named, rather than converted at a rate you did not choose.

Why it changed

The Overview shows the last 30 days, and History shows each month, split into the parts that explain it:

The parts always add up to the change. In the month you first add property, vehicles, valuables or loans, everything they bring is shown once as Now counted, so the wider picture never reads as growth.

Milestones

Trove marks the round numbers you have crossed (1 lakh, 5 lakh, 10 lakh, 25 lakh, 50 lakh, 1 crore, and the equivalents in other currencies), how far you are to the next, and when you would reach it at your current pace.

They are private. There is no sharing, no ranking against other people and no streak to keep.
